The Tabla Method DVD Tutor is a tutor and documentary on the playing and teaching of Tabla by Pandit, Shankar Ghosh. Born in 1935, Pandit Shankar Ghosh is acknowledged as one of the great contemporary masters of Indian percussion. Today, his style has collected a following and hundreds of young tabla players study his teaching throughout the world. Indeed he has, over the years, revolutionised all aspects of tabla playing, from accompaniment to composition, notably of solo tabla pieces. Pandit Shankar Ghosh is not only a musical educator, but is also a concert artist whose international notoriety was affirmed as early as 1962, during concerts in the company of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan... Pandit Shankar Ghosh presents the different strokes (boles) used to play the tabla. You will be able to study "theme and variations" compositions (Kaida, Rela, Laggi...) and fixed compositions (Tukra, Gat, Chakradhar). Tabla tuning is also explained. Duration : 1 hour and 15 minutes A documentary film titled "Calcutta, capital of tabla" presents the artistic and educational environment of the tabla, as well as its manufacture. Many musical sequences (with sarode, sitar, vocals, tabla solo, tabla duo) help us appreciate the extent of the tabla repertoire. Particular attention has been focused on tabla tutorials (tala classes, group sessions, etc).
