The previous Boutique synths caused a fair few raised eyebrows here at Scan, especially when compared to some of their original analogue counterparts. We were all impressed with how accurately they modelled the original 80's analogue synths (especially the JU-06), with the only noticable difference being a lack of hiss on the boutiques!
The new SH-01A uses the same ACB technology, developed by Roland to meticulously reproduce the analogue circuit characteristics of the original units, including the imperfections and quirks that gave the original SH-101 its unique sonic quality.
The original SH-101 was a very simple "you get what you see" synth, built in the pre-midi era, it was a powerhouse for lead sounds, ripping basses, tripped out monophonic arpeggios and other-worldly sound effects.
With this new Boutique model, Roland have gone a step further, bringing the synth well and truly into the 21st century with full midi control (via USB and hardware midi), a 64 pattern sequencer, patch memories and LFO clock sync.. oh and it's polyphonic... a 4 note polyphonic 101! ...just let that sink in for a second while you digest the rest of the infomation!
