Again, as with other rival software gizmos, you can use Platinum Maker to devise playlists, locate MP3 files online, convert pre-ripped MP3 files into the one same, suitably uniform, format, etc. All this is well and good, of course, but also slightly workaday.

What possibly marks out MP3 Platinum Maker as a cut above is its additional features: with this package you can re-edit and tone up old tracks, locate online digital radio tracks and rip them too, cross-fade between tracks and files, conjure weird light effects with synchronised 3-D images, even sample and rip phone conversations, TV sounds, Webcasts--maybe even record and overdub the funny noise Windows makes when it opens up. Admittedly, you might not want to make your very own CD full of computer noises, but there's probably someone out there who does.
