The HotBox 120 Mk3 is a professional power attenuator, also sometimes called a power soak or power brake. The HotBox works by absorbing 90% to 97% of the output power from your amplifier so that you can get that 100% genuine tube overload tone, full of rich and sweet harmonic distortion, just like the greatest guitarists love, but without deafening yourself. The HotBox 120 offers high power handling and a switchable reduction ratio of either -10dB (10:1) or -18dB (50:1). In human hearing terms this 'sounds like' roughly a quarter volume or one tenth volume. -18dB is the sweet spot for home use: Quiet enough to not drive your neighbours nuts but loud enough that it doesn't suck tone. -10dB is the studio sweet spot: More guts to drive that microphone, but quiet enough that the engineer will love you and the desk wont overload.
